Akira is my all time favorite animated film, and I KNOW Hollywood will ruin it.

That being said, Kaneda does not look that Asian in the original. I know he's Japanese, but he doesn't look nearly as Asian as say, Tetsuo.

Also, there are several other characters that look quite un-Asian. The general, several members of the council, and so on.

That doesn't mean they shouldn't cast Asian leads for a live action Akira, but it does mean (to me) that they probably shouldn't make this movie.Matthew MacNishhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03264738483763244969noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4665052536053897386.post-54522244082525018872011-04-01T23:06:08.018+07:002011-04-01T23:06:08.018+07:00Ugh, this drives me crazy, too. But I don't understand why they need big name actors. It's nice to see new people up on the screen every now and then.

I do wish they'd quit the whitewashing. Aside from being just wrong (and, in this case, ridiculous), some of us write characters that aren't white for plot related reasons.Myrna Fosterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13534358757278599925noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4665052536053897386.post-40340219665872748512011-03-26T01:02:06.068+07:002011-03-26T01:02:06.068+07:00(I honestly think it should just be redone as an a...(I honestly think it should just be redone as an animated film, though...)karmykhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00236880610356291551noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4665052536053897386.post-34208264740385474302011-03-26T01:01:36.781+07:002011-03-26T01:01:36.781+07:00His acting isn't the greatest, but Daniel Henn...His acting isn't the greatest, but Daniel Henney needs more American film roles... and he grew up in the states, so English isn't an issue there. The casting call was for "Asians and ugly people" (I'll let you figure out which I was going for) for the scenes in Singapore, or more pirates.

While I was in line, an indy producer gave me his card, all the while talking about how there weren't enough Asian leads in films and wondering if I'd be interested. Since I have no acting experience, I never called him back, but it shows that there are people aware of the problem.Timhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07677154909420339405noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4665052536053897386.post-21782300430150028902011-03-25T19:42:09.208+07:002011-03-25T19:42:09.208+07:00Bravo to this post!
